Unhappy Catalytic Converter

I have a 99 GLS with 105000 miles on it and my cat went out so I had it replaced at a local muffler shop and the engine light keeps coming on can anyone help me with problem. and ideas of why ? I love my beetle but its turning into a money pit.

did the shop clear the code? it could have come back on because it was never cleared. I'd start there...

the shop did erase all the codes but the light keeps coming back on. I had a after market cat installed could that be the problem ??

get an o2 spacer and that should end your problems

Not to mention find your receipt vw will repay you every penny you spent.

No way! I remember getting a letter from Volkswagen, then someone threw it away on me. So I'm guessing the catalytic converter I paid for last summer shouldn't of cost me that decent chunk of change? This hurts...

they only covered the cat up to 100k miles

WOW I did not know that !! do I need to call the dealer or contact the EPA ? i would love to get my money back on this.
any more info would be great would sure help me alot.

volkswagen will cover the cat upto 10 years and 120,000 miles
you need to call volkswagen and give them your vin #

Maybe not only your cat was broken, maybe also a lambda probe went out...

Angry catalytic converter

well I call my local vw dealer today to ask them about the recall on my beetle they said they would replace my cat if it was still the factory cat, but if i had it replaced with a after market one that all they could is charge $85 to scan it to see if the cat was working ok. so they will only fix it if you have the factory cat still in there and its making noise

my cel came on and my mechanic said it was the o2 sensor so we replaced both. the cel turned off but returned yesterday after only 100 miles of driving. wtf? im guessing now it could be my cat. at 150k i doubt if vw is gonna replace it for free. anyone know if they are leanient at all about 30k over their mileage limit? how about a non-oem cat that will work?

im tellin you...space it out of the pipe a little bit..they make spacers for it.


no VW will not replace your cat at 150k..u run aftermarket with no problems

got a link to an aftermarket cat? the ones i se online are specified not to work with CA emmissions
