well I call my local vw dealer today to ask them about the recall on my beetle they said they would replace my cat if it was still the factory cat, but if i had it replaced with a after market one that all they could is charge $85 to scan it to see if the cat was working ok. so they will only fix it if you have the factory cat still in there and its making noise

my cel came on and my mechanic said it was the o2 sensor so we replaced both. the cel turned off but returned yesterday after only 100 miles of driving. wtf? im guessing now it could be my cat. at 150k i doubt if vw is gonna replace it for free. anyone know if they are leanient at all about 30k over their mileage limit? how about a non-oem cat that will work?
