Default Car died. HELP! please... HELP.

1998 New Beetle red and cute one.

I got the car 8 months ago with a check engine light.
-put a new MAF. light went off for two days and came back on.
-p1128 (long term fuel lean bank 1) code came up. Car drived great. No problem, so I kept driving it.

Last week, my car started and turned off. Started again, has no acceleration. But still drivable. The condition of lacking power got worse in the last 2 days. Today, car starts, but turns off in 2 seconds.
-P0301 (misfire in cylinder 1)

I checked for vacuum leaks, no problem, good spark plugs, good wires, good coil.

I am thinking fuel pump or fuel filter or fuel pressure regulator?

This is my only car and I need to get to work tomorrow. Please help.

My first move would be a fuel filter. I hope you figured something out. I hate to think you came here for help and no one helped at all.

Welcome from another red '98 owner
Like Ellen said, try the fuel filter first.

How did you determine that the coil is fine? Because at this age, they tend to develop hairline cracks and let in moisture.
That's what mine did, and the damage wasn't visible until I took the coil completely out. My symptoms included misfires, buckling, and running loud like a tractor. The symptoms also got worse on a rainy or humid day.
Another thing is the wires, they get damaged easily when pulled off the spark plugs. That's why we recommend changing plugs AND wires at the same time. If you just changed the plugs, one wire might be slightly damaged.
There, a couple of 'usual suspects' to get you started.

Thank you guys. Due to quick timing of car going down, I am leaning more towards the fuel issues. One of my friend gave me ride to work, so I will be hacking the beetle when I get home. Anything else I should look for?

Thumbs up

Wellcome to club! I have 2000 2L, had same codes plus to rech mix and missfiring on all cylinders, no signal on all o2s and all that jazz 270 km per tank!! Disaster!!!
Change O2 sensors, or at least before cat one. You can change it yourself and in US they are $70-sh. My engine is ticking like a swiss watch after replacing coil pack and o2s. Killed all the codes at the same time. 550 km per tank!
