Auto Gear Problem

Hi Guys

Just bought a 2nd Hand MY03 2.0 Auto Cabrio Beetle.

However, after a few days of driving I noticed this strange sound / jerk from the gear box. Everytime I come to a stop, the auto transmission will have a loud clunk / jerk when it downshifts from 3rd to 2nd gear.

It is like trying to force a gear into position. This does not always happen.

Do you think it is anything to do with the tranny oil?

Mine has got around 85,000km on it.

My wife's did the same thing, and we brought it in to a local private VW repair. They replaced a strip in the transmission for 585 dollars. the strip is supposed to read 60-80 ohms, and ours was reading over 100, so they said it should be replaced.

My wife says that it still is doing it, and now the speedometer is off by 10 miles an hour after 65.

I guess we are going to be bringing it back. It is an 02 GLS.

We just bought it 2nd hand as well, and this is our first experience with the mechanic. But they were recommeded by a friend who said they would not put in anything we would not need.

I brought the car down to the local workshop. Changed the tranny oil.... Gear shift seems smoother but the problem is still there....
