Default Secondary Air Injection System Code

Hey folks. The beetle that I am working on has that code registered. I know it has to do with the air/smog pump system. I took off the plastic cover and then checked the air pump. It does not seem to be working. I therefore pulled the connector that goes to the pump, and then while having it attache to a volt meter checked for voltage on the connector/wiring harness an there was no voltage with the key on nor when the motor is started or running.

So is there a fuse or something (relay) that could result in the connector not having power?

Does it supposed to have power while starting and running?

My next step is to put 12volt on the pump and see if it runs, if it does then for sure the thing is not getting power.

Thank you

The secondary pump will only get voltage for about one minute after you start a dead cold engine so take that into consideration in your testing. After the engine warms a little it will not run again until another cold start. The secondary pump supplies extra oxygen to the exhaust to get the catalytic converter to warm up faster.

It's possible a vacuum line leak will set the same code so check all of your hoses, too.

Really, only for a minute? Seems such a waste to put that pump and all that other stuff for it to run for a minute. I'll recheck it. Thanks for the tip. :O)

The vacuum hose for the brake power booster was loose, I took it out put some tape on the ends to snug them up until I can get a new one tommorow, and now the darn ABS light and brake light is on. It also beeps...lol Got a match and some gas?

Didn't touch anything related to ABS, as far as I know.

Did you pull the cover off the battery? There's a plug behind the wires & fuses that came loose on mine & threw the same codes. Pushed the plug back snug & no more abs& epc lights

Yes I actually did remove the cover. SPeaking of the battery how do I remove the entire cover so I can disconnect the battery and let the computer reset itself? Then I will attempt to put the cover back on and check for the location of that plug and make sure it is on correctly.

THanks so much for the answers!
