Default Use this DIY for Fuel Filter change

Yes folks! Its me again posting my latest acomplishment. I only just changed my fuel filter (at 94,363 miles ) using the above DIY writeup from vwvortex.com.

All that is needed is a little patience.

I must add some comments:

1. Jack up the car - things will be much easier if you can stick your head under there to see whats going on.

2. Unclip the cables that are in the way.

3. When removing the bracket around the filter, don't just loosen it... you have to take it off!

4. Remove the clip nearest to the rear tire FIRST (or the rear clip)! To get the front clip you have to genlty pull the whole filter down after you remove the rear clip to see where the little thing is to press down.

5. BE PATIENT... and gentle! It is not hard to do, it just takes a level head.

Should take under 15 mins.

that was pretty handy. i'd already ordered my filter before finding this.. my main issues were not being able to get the car to stall after removing the fuse and running it. the l'il trooper just would not give up.. so i just shut it off and hoped for the best.

thankfully the way i was twisted to see what i was doing (it was after work and getting dark under the car), I managed to avoid the face full of petrol I would've gotten. My arm got soaked, but I'm okay with that.

I'm impressed with how much smoother the engine runs\idles now.. I have no idea how long ago it was changed, if ever.

Good Job Dude!
I also got a much smoother idle and my wife kept giving me the eye because she has been telling me for a while that the car did not sound right.... she has an ear for these things...

After 1 1/2 hours, I finally gave up trying to change my fuel filter. Even knowing where to press the "magic button" didn't help. As hard as I pressed that thing, I still couldn't pull off the fuel lines. I used as much force as I felt was reasonable, short of breaking the clips. After all the work I've done on this car (timing belt, AC compressor, etc) it is depressing to be defeated by a simple fuel filter.
