Default Won't start all the time

2002 Beetle was tested at Walmart by my wife and they said it needed new battery. I put a new one in but it doesn't start all the timer. Doesn't seem to be cold weather related. It was 14 today and it cranked just fine. Yesterday it was 40 and it wouldn't start. It's like if I don't start it every 6 hours it won't start or there is an electrical threshold it's not hitting.

Odd stuff...

Head lights will work but not start. The clock...will often go to 12:00 when it won't start, sometimes not. It will always start if I put a charger/starter on it. 50 amp jump. Then it runs fine for just a day or maybe a couple of days.

Any thoughts?

Signed: Have charger will travel...

My guess is they didn't tighten the cables correctly and when you clamp a charger on there it tightens it up for a good connection.

Yeah, certainly sounds like something is loose or not grounded properly.
