Unfortunately for me it showed up as $50 because it has to be shipped.

$23 was very tempting.... not $50

This is the one you want. It reads and clears ALL VW codes, not just MIL. It reads tranny, SRS etc.

Sorry, that link doesn't work anymore.

anything other then a vag com is a waste. vag com will read codes that an OBD2 reader will not. some VW codes are not assigned a P code

I wanted it for my Chevy, but unfortuneately, at the blow-out price it is in-store pickup only.

Incorrect. I have the Geniscan 200 myself.....I've had it for almost 3 years now. It reads every and all VW/Audi codes including all from Engine, SRS and transmission and resets the lights. All codes including non P codes (VW uses codes in a "17653" type format also)and a book included list every available code. The VAG com will do other things too but if what you need is a unit to read ALL VW OBD II codes and reset all lights, then the VAG com is a WAAAAY overpriced needless tool.

Walmart sells a few OBD2 readers right in their automotive dept. They won't work on VW (maybe just the MIL) but will on most anything else.

Yeah, I know, but for $23? I'll just have to look next time. I almost bought the one they have at the local FLAPS a few times already, but keep deciding to wait until I actually have a CEL. My dad needs his S-10 checked out now though...

I think they're around $60 or so...which isn't bad at all. But again, if you need one for VW, try a Geniscan.

I have VAG-COM for my VW. I think I'll wait until my Chevy has a CEL and buy a generic OBD II reader at a local auto parts store.

Bill: IIRC, the VAG-COM can work as a generic code reader in non-VAG cars.

On some apparently it will--I did try it on my dad's S-10 and it did not work. I guess I could try it on my Silverado before I buy one...

On the '99 S-10, I selected OBD II mode and attempted a scan with no success.

Try PMing Growler about it. AFAIK, he's pretty knowledgeable regarding the VAG-COM system.
