Default 2000 GL 2.0 L Fuel filling problem

Hi Everyone, I just bought this yellow beetle with 68K miles for $5,000. Runs good ,replaced the oil and filter and aircleaner but when I go to fill up with gas it wont let me pump very fast. If I try to pump medium or fast the gas pump shuts off and no more fuel goes in. If I pump REAL slow then it seems to be OK for a while then again the pump shuts off as if the tank is full. Any ideas. Help greatly appreciated in advance. Thnaks Ray M. from Iowa

I have that happen sometimes. I think its just the pump itself. Some work and some don't. Depends on how well the pump forms a seal.

i live in mn and that little problem can be a big deal when its below zero getting gas and it takes ten minutes babying the nozzle. what ive done is found a filling station that has a slight incline and park down hill so the rear of the car is higher than the front. for whatever reason it works, maybe an air bubble issue or something.
