Default Starts then dies

2003 convertible. Recently replaced battery. Car starts fine then immediately dies. From browsing on here sounds like the possibility of when the battery was replaced (2 weeks ago) could have knocked loose the air intake? Then it eventually came loose enough to cause this problem? Reason I ask is car is abandoned about 35 minutes away and don't want to incur a tow to a repair shop if it can be avoided... thoughts?

I have the same problem. I start it the engine turns over and then dies. It only does it sometimes and at random times. I find that if I start it and immediatly rev the engine in the high RPMs(with the car in park of course) that it will stay started. It may take a few repeating but then it works.

But whenever I take it in to get looked at it never does not start and the mechanic thinks I'm crazy...

does the immobilizer light flash on the dash? if not then that is not your issue? any check engine light? could be a bad cam or crankshaft position sensor

Default Final word

Turns out that when the battery was replaced the bolt on the clamp for the negative post was stripped. I had tried to tighten it as best as possible but evidently it wasn't secure. This caused an inconsistent connection for about two weeks, and that flipped out the computer. Needed to tow it to the dealer and they reset the computer (and replaced the battery connection).
