Thumbs down 2.0 AEG Cylinder Head

I'm in need of the Casting Number off of the 2.0 AEG cylinder head. I have a 2000 model Beetle and need to get the car back to Virginia Beach from Maryland. Let my son use the car to get back and forward to work and back. Car broke down while he was driving home one evening. Had car towed to the Stealership. At first, they diagnosed it has needing a new timing belt. So, I had them to replace the tensioner and water pump, since the were already working on the belt. I asked the very intelligent service writer if the valves were okay? She said that the belt hadn't come completely off and that everything else was fine.

Low and behold, now they are telling me that the belt came all the way off and that the valves are bent.

I've found a head, but they need the casting number. The stealership want $2000 for a head.

HELP!!!!!

IMO, after the warranty expires on a car, I think thats when the owners should look into visiting independent mechanics. They are called Stealerships for a reason.

any 8v 99.5-05 head will go on your no problem. they all use the same head. some might need a block off plate for the SAI but if you buy a modern 8v head then it will go right on to your motor....VW is a big boys lego. i would also tell them you want to see the head. sounds like they are trying to fvck you up the @ss.

I bought a brand new head for $100 from a parted crate motor. If you want the contact info for the guy I bought it from let me know, I think he has more.

I've found a remanufactured head for $250.00. Thanks for looking out though. I think that I've found the casting number "037103373AD".

My sentiments exactly. I'm going to have the head checked out when I get it back from the stealership. If they are screwing me around, then I'm going to fvck them us the @ss!!! (Legally) I'm going to make a surprise visit the friday to and have them to start to car so I can see if they are full of $#it.

VW Germany has a RSP for the head at 489 euros. Thats about 635 USD. For a brand new part. Anything more is a rip-off.

Thanks to SMG...I found a brand new head off of a parted out Create motor from INA Engineering in California. They sold it to me for the low low cost of $330.00 (shipping included). Genesis will be on the road real soon.

Thanks...you all are great and very supportive.

Cool Update

The New Head from INA Engineering arrived yesterday and new lifters from Germanautoparts.com will be here tomorrow.

The head came with a BRAND NEW Valve cover and everything was as Issam of INA promised. All in all, I paid a total of $440.00 dollars for a new head and lifters (shipping included) $330.00 for the head and $110.00 for a set of lifter. The VW dealer wanted $2000.00 for a New Head from VW of America. Wow....what a savings!

I can't wait to finally drive it again.

I know what you mean, I was really glad to be driving my '98 after I got it all put back together.

I went the rebuild route instead. I got a used '99 head ($90) from a Jetta, had it completely re-manufactured by Car Quest for $470.77 (includes taxes).

Next month I'm going to try my skills on a 1.8T, that lost a timing belt.
