Default Engine Code Location

Where can I find the engine code on a 2002 Beetle? I have looked but I can not find it. It is either engine code AZG or AEG. Or does it matter what the engine code is when you are getting parts,,,i.e.,, oxygen sensors, spark plugs, etc....

Thanks
Frank

Not sure where it is on the Engine, but I found mine on the Build sticker back by the spare tire.

there is a sticker on the timing belt cover, it has a barcode on it and some other info, the code is on there too.

or you can pm me your vin and i can run it to see what it is.

i didn't think azg's were a us motor. i was under the impression that the avh came after the aeg.

Found the code today. Removed the motor cover and the sticker was on the timing belt cover. It is a AZG motor.

Thanks all for the help.
