Default changed timing belt , turns over but not firing

beetle petrol 1.6l 2001

i have just done major overhaul on beetle and now shes not firing
i have replaced head gasket, oil seals,timing belt and water pump (shot! plastic impellor in pieces)
lined up timing belt
car now turns over but will not fire
i have vag and the error is
16725 camshaft position sensor (g40) implausible signal

what could this be never had no problem with sensor previously so im assuming timing marks are out

any ideas before i strip down again?

Just a silly question, did you reconnect the the CAM Sensor wire?

woah, jumping a few teeth is more than a problem, you might have some serious damage if you jumped one tooth.

on a 1.6 i bet she is fine.....not all motors are interference
