Default 6 yr old beetle
Any ideas on what can cause my car to shake and be sluggish as haven't got a clue what to do and my engine management light is now flashing? Any help would be gratefully received.

I would suggest getting scanned; some auto parts places will do it for free.

I will reiterate what D2Beetle said. If you go to Autozone or a place like that, they should scan your car for free so you can tell us what codes it is throwing.
