Hi, I observed that my coolant leaks from what it appears the area of front crankshaft oil seal. There is no oil leakage whatsoever and the fluid that is dripping does not indicate suggest there is oil in it.
I thought maybe the crankshaft front seal is bad, but then I asked myself: what would a coolant do in a crankshaft area since I believe there is only oil there. I talked to a mechanic very casually and over the phone and he said that it is the water pump that is likely to be bad. I would believe that, BUT ...the thing is that there is NO coolant leak paths that run from the waterpump down to crankshaft front seal. Has ANYONE had similar situation and if so, then what was the solution? Thanks, |

Hm... first place to see the coolant leaking on my 2.0 2000 175K bug was on the coolant flange seal. To be more precise, I could smell the coolant when I turn the heating fans on so I pop the hood and found the white dry stuff around the coolant flange seal area. Got the new one from the local part store ( $13.85 CAD ) and replaced it my self. Took me 1 hour
