Default Oil change with extractor - what to do about filter?

For all those extractor oil change fans, how do you go about changing the filter? Is it possible to change the oil filter without using ramps, by simply crawling underneath the car?

Or, do I absolutely need ramps to do it right?

What kind of car you have? A coupe? A convertible? 2.0L engine? 1.8T engine? Turbodiesel engine?

I used to change it by shimmying under the passenger side and just loosening the oil plug with no rams. As for the oil filter, it isnt terribly concealed but its going to be a bitch to get off and you might just have a few oil slicks on your driveway for a while

Other than that just go to wally world and get some jack stands for like 10 dollars and jack it up.

What I do when I change mine is get 2 pieces of inch thick plywood and just drive the front wheels up on them. Gives you enough clearance to get under the car easily and still work on it. Cheaper then buyin ramps or jackstands if your not tryin to spend money on anything.
