Default epc light!!!

so i'm going completely crazy with Red. when i try and shift out of park (to either drive or reverse) nothing happens. the shifter is completely stuck and no matter how hard i press the brake, the shifter refuses to move. my hubby told me that i just needed to press the shifter a tad forward when pressing in the button but that didn't work for me today. it was sooooo embarrassing because i was at a drive thru and ppl were waiting behind me to move out of the way i turned it off 5 times and nothing happened. i had to take the key completely out of the ignition and restart it for it to shift out of park. this is sooo frustrating!!! anyone else have or is having this problem? i called my mechanic and he told me that it could have something to do with the brake and how i should be hearing a little release noise (kinda like an air lock) when i press on the brake and shift out of gear. hopefully it is just this "brake mechanism's" fault.

I bet you have blown the fuse to your taillights and the "brake must be pressed to shift from park" lock is not disengaging. you don't have water in your taillights do you? do you hear a slight click from your shifter when you push on the brake?

exact thing happened to my eurovan... tore thw thole shifter surround out and disconnected the harness to the solenoid.. was able to shift out of park no sweat..

startred checking fuses and found one burnt out to the taillights.

replaced it. worked great 2x.. then it popped again.

started looking and my bumper brake lights (aftermarket wired to the reflectors) were FULL of water from the snow...

Have you gone thru a lot of rain or puddles lately?

There was a brake-switch recall sometime back. The symptoms match yours. Call the local dealership with your vin and see if you get a freebie or not.
