Default Air Bag Removal

Hey,
My 1998 New Beetle needs a new heater core, and in the instructions it says to remove the air bag. My question is do you have to wait a certain amount of time between disconnecting the battery to removing the air bag?

Thanks.

take both positive and neg off the battery and touch them together for about 20 seconds....you will be fine. also unplug the airbag before you mess with it
