Default Retrofit The Aircon VW forgot to install in 2.0l

In the uk some years ago, a load of beetles were shipped over with the aircon missing because vw forgot to put them in. So what i want to know, is it possible to retrofit one in just by buying the various parts that it would have had. i could probably find the parts from a scrapyard quite cheaply from a similar beetle. the thing is what else needs to be changed. would it need a whole new ecu and wiring loom? and would the engine be the right one. Im guessing all of the mounting brackets would be in there for all of the stuff. And havent got a clue on how much work it would be.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Also.If there is somebody on here who has done this i would love to ask you a few questions. Thanks

VW tended to run full wirelooms and just leave the connections 'open' , like with the cd changers.

So yes, you PROBABLY just have to connect the parts and plug them in. Maybe use a VCDS to enable things.

Do these beetles have AC controls in them at all? I've never heard of NB w/o air, so I'm not sure what your control console looks like.

it doesnt have the ac switch, just the air recirculation one. what about the temp dial on the dash, does that effect the temp of the ac or is that just for the blowers?
