Question Cracked Exhaust Manifold

Here's the situation. My 1999 2.0L NB has a cracked exhaust manifold. Asked the mechanic and he said it can't be welded, it has to be replaced. I'm not really into the idea of paying $400-$500 for a new one so I've been looking for used. I've found some good deals on eBay for 1.8L manifolds ($89.99) but I don't think that will fit. So here's my question:

Are there exhaust manifolds from other cars that will easily fit on my bug? Jetta? Golf? Or are those only compatible with 1.8L?

Thanks so much!

I dont believe it will fit.

I dont even think they have the same bolt patterns.

Sorry!

Is a 1.8 manifold hard to find?

Where are you located? Try to find a local Beetle being parted out and grab one. Or see if there are some online VW parts places that have one.

My saving mantra:
Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market

Call them, do not email most salvage yards take credit cards and ship but do not answer email.

Dunno where you live; but have you checked your local junk yards for 2.0 beetles? They remained mostly the same for all model years.

Dunno why you keep mentioning that other motor, but no, the exhaust manifold from that won't fit.

You need a 2.0 exhaust manifold.

Beej is right- I got mine via car-part.com . The yard made the mistake of matching the lowest price on the list- got mine for $50 Make sure you know if your car is california or federal emissions spec (sticker in engine bay). Mine had lost the sticker, so it turned out the manifold was missing a stainless pipe that was on the replacement. Growler installed mine and he cut, folded and sealed the pipe- running fine! and no more loud twittering noise
