Default Exhaust replacement

So I've found an exhaust.... one that's rather retro, mimicing the pea-shooter of the original beetle. For those who have changed exhausts themselves, how hard is it to remove the factory system? I'm going to guess it's not too terribly difficult. Other than getting the car up on a lift/jack stands.. any advise (like don't do it when the muffler's hot)??
