Default Unexplained Temp Light...

The (Red) temp light comes on almost immediately when I start the Beetle...and it's winter here in Colorado, so there's no way the engine is even warmed up, besides overheating. I'm assuming this is a problem with some type of sending unit gone bad. Any ideas on where to start looking...not real familiar under the hood of a VW.

Hi ya!

Have you checked your coolant level? If it is low either go to your VW dealer (I recommend Lithia VW in Thornton) or you can add DISTILLED WATER IF YOUR COOLANT IS PINK. If it isnt pink go to the dealer.

If it's not low coolant you may want to change your temp sensor. You can get a green temp sensor at the dealer for under $10 and it's easy to replace yourself. I'm not sure where it is on the 2.O, though.

Same place as the 1.8T - to the right of the cylinder head attached to the "heart valve" (which is the plastic bit with a bundle of coolant hoses coming out of it).

If you are low on coolent, make sure you add the pink stuff. I've been told that that the pink and the green don't mix well and can cause problems.
