There are 2 on the NB. Do you know which one you need to replace? There is one before the Cat and one after it.

bank 1(which the nb only has one bank as it is an inline 4 cyl) sensor 1 is located directly behind the top part of the engine. to be specific, it is screwed into the exhaust manifold. you still need to jack up your nb from the front passenger side and there will be a black box that has two nylon 10mm nuts that you must remove in order to unplug the o2 sensors. the front sensor usually have a black connector and a really long wire that is clipped to the side of the sheet metal that runs along there. unplug and unclip and pull the wire to the top so you can use an oxygen sensor socket to remove the sensor. you can take off the black engine cover(that says vw/2.0) but is not neccisary. also, you may want to unclip the coolant overflow hose connected at the(looking at the motor) left rear on top of engine. so you will put your arm through that gap and wrench off the sensor. should take less than 15 minutes. and for females, its usualy easier to stick an arm through that gap and have plenty of room to wrench on that sensor. obviously, installation is reverse of removal.

I did my O2 sensor this past weekend. If you purchased the direct Bosch replacement ($89.00 at O'Rielly's) the cable is long enough to reach the connector box.
P.S. if you don't have a oxygen sensor socket, a 7/8" wrench will fit as well. |
