This kit put together by ECS was assembled to include everything required to perform a proper timing belt job on your 2.0L. Kit includes the following parts:

* Timing belt
* Tensioner Roller
* Water pump with metal impeller
* Accessory drive belt
* Thermostat
* 2) 1.5 liter bottles of G12 Coolant
* OEM motor mount bolts (4)
* Camshaft seal
* Crankshaft seal

I'm always confused as to what timing belt/ water pump package to order, as there is a wide range of prices and/or parts in the different kits. Which 1.8 kit do you recommend?

Well first, let's make sure we get the 1.8T Kits, this thread is for the 2.0L so the links will not be correct.

The 1.8T timing belt kits can be found here on the website:

Volkswagen New Beetle 1.8T > Engine > Timing

As far as which kit is best, I feel the Ultimate Plus Kits are the best value and most complete as they include coolant. There are a few components that may or may not be used (camshaft seal, crankshaft seal), but it will not be apparent they need replaced until everything is apart. I've used the Ultimate Plus kits on (2) of my cars this year.

i've ordered one with pulleys; i'll report back on the pulley install.

Why wait until you rack up the miles before you purchase? Your best bet it to get it now while the price is low, in fact, if you have any major purchases to make best to do it now before the dollar hits all time lows. With the way Obama and Congress are borrowing, spending and printing money, everything is going to go up in price. Don't forget the VAT tax will add to the cost as well.

pullies installed and p-coated!

flawless install, pulleys took under an hour.

look to be of excellent quality, though i shoulda thought about the alternator pulley BEFORE i put a system in the car...i'm installing a 1farad capacitor to combat the pulsing and dim lights.

in any case, the one issue i have is on ME, the products themselves are EXCELLENT quality, and my mileage has increased by 1mpg. not significant, but it's enough for me to notice.

once again, ecs comes through with value and service that is unsurpassed.

You got a very big thank you from STLVW.

Sent one of those guys towards your way, and he purchased an ultimate kit for his MK4 Golf.

Keep up the good work ECS!

so, i've installed enough of these kits to give a full review, and here goes:

ecs tuning has an AWESOME rep in the vw community. when you purchase a major kit such as this, you expect quality, and you get it. here's my take on this kit compared to other major retailers...

the belt: ecs uses oem, others may not. blauparts uses an off-name belt (still german) that is 1000000x times harder to get on. i thought one time for sure i got the wrong belt, it was that tight. ecs has never given me a problem in that regard.

the tensioner: ecs uses skf or equivalent, others use the same.

the water pump: ecs uses graf or hepu, some others use off-brand units that while still german, have caused more trouble than they are worth.

the bolts: ecs is the ONLY kit to include bolts. if you bring me any other kit, expect to see a $20 charge for the 4 new mount bolts.

the serp belt: ecs uses oem, others may not. beware, the contitech serpentine belt is the ONLY belt that will last as long as the timing belt, saving you time and $$.

all in all, ecs is my #1 choice for quality, fitment, and value. my car has an ecs ultimate kit on it, and i used ecs for the gasket set when building my fire-breathing 8v motor. i just wish they were closer than ohio.

note: i am not getting paid by ecs, nor do i recieve any discounts or kickbacks. i'm just spreading a good thing to my fellow enthusiasts.

i also stock these kits, so anyone who gets a timing belt service most likely recieves an ecs kit from me.
