Alright guys... I know I've been hiding for a while, but I've got a new issue! Threw a code P0240 (I think) it's Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1).

One: Is it true about this whole catalytic converter warranty extension to 10 years/120,000 miles... and does it apply to third owners?

Two: If the answer to question one is false, how much should I plan to spend on a new cat installed??

Thanks in advance!

It is true. I got a letter a few year ago and I'm a second owner. I dont know if there is a year range affected though.

That letter is posted in a thread somewhere here...

I had a cat replaced under warranty on my '03, but I was just barely under the regular EPA mandated 80k warranty. If you're under 8/80 you're good, not sure if the extension will apply if you need that.

I believe that warranty is engine specific, for example AEG's might not be covered
atleast according to VW

yeah. I found an article on the EPA's website that said it was only for 1999 to 2001 models with a specific engine. Devils! The code hasn't come back since I've cleared it, so we'll see what happens. The day it threw the code it was running rough, but it's been fine ever since... maybe just a fluke? I hope so.

GOTTA get my thermostat fixed asap!
