Thumbs down Trunk won't close

My son drove my 2000 beetle to work today. He returned home to tell me that hatch/trunk won't close. Checked the latch and it won't catch on the striker. Has anyone else experienced this problem.

Yes this is a problem with the new beetle.

You can adjust the bump stoppers on the trunk. They look like black rubber and sit on the body.

You can also adjust the metal truck latch which is down bummer side. Loosen up those bolts and move very so slightly.

Has it been washed or rained on for some time??Mine too has a hard time latching and sometimes won't latch at all after its been soaked. Its due to a leaky third brake light.

That may or may not be the case, just throwin it out there for ya

It has been raining. The trunk has been leaking lately. I had the Sunroof drain tubes cleaned two weeks ago, thinking that it would fix the problem. Thanks for the incite.

Before you go dismantling everything, does your boot lock allow you to open it with the key?

If it does, insert your key turn it left then right, and close the boot. This should reset the boot mech and everything should work properly

Always works on our '00 NB

I tried the key method and it worked..This will help out many in need of a solution...at least until they get that brake light sealed up again

I had the same problem for about a year. It would latch, but only partially. I would have to open and slam it shuts several times before it would catch or just push down on it while it was partially latched.

I finally got the latch replaced this year and now it takes two "unlocks" to open.

There's no apostrophe before an 's' when you're talking about the plural version of a word. "I took some neat photo's!" is NOT correct.

Try the reset method I stated above - you never know it might sort your problem out

I have the same issue, but it normally happens only when the temps drop. I use the key and it works every time. Another solution is after the failed attempt, instead of opening it up and trying to slam it again, just put both your hands on each side of the lower edge of the lid and firmly push down. It works every time.

Default My Hatch Problem

I flip the open lever on the driver's door and go to the trunk to pull it open only to have to go back to the driver's door to flip the open lever again.

I don't know why it won't unlatch on the first try.

Thats due to the adjustment of the things that make the bootlid 'pop' if they aren't adjusted properly it wont always pop

Weak/cold gas struts on the lid will also cause that, it will pop some but still be held by the latch...
