Default Could I put a 120Amp voltage regulator on a 90 A alternator

I needed to replace my old voltage regulator ( ref: F00 M 145 225) and I couldn't find the same anywhere after a long research .

Finally, on the website Auto Parts Warehouse | Car Parts, Truck Parts & Auto Body Parts Online - Free Shipping on most Auto Accessories & Performance Parts – AutoPartsWarehouse I find a voltage regulator for which they say that that model (Manufacturer number: W0133-1613555) fits perfectly for my New Beetle.

But my alternator is a 14 V 90A model (028 903 028 D) and the voltage regulator that they propose and on live chat confirm me is a 120Amp model.

How they could say that is secure to put a 120Amp voltage regulator on a 90amp alternator.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Does somebody had any experience with similar issues ?

Thanks.

It is quite possible that the base altenator is capable of producing 120Amp but is regulated down to 90 on your model. I'm not sure how you would independently confirm that though....

i know on the old style bosch alternators, that the voltage regulator didn't account for the amperage, but you COULD place a 110amp regulator in a 90amp body with no issue. not sure on the newer valeo units.

just get one off a 1.8t from the junkyard, they're 120amp.
