Angry Cooling Fan Problem

99 GLS w/ 29,000 miles overheated the other night. Limped it home, and it seemed o.k. but it seems the primary cooling fan isn't working. My a/c doesn't work, so I can't do the test that way to see if they both come on. Pulled the plug on the thermo-sensor and jumped the wires....Nothing. Anyone had to replace their fan in their NB?? Reading all of the threads, it seems everyone just replaces the sensor, and they're ok. I don't want to spend $150 replacing the fan if I don't have to. Oh, the fuses are fine on top of the battery....

Default Update

I was able to fix my broken climate control switch thanks to scrounging through the old threads. Now, when the a/c is on the accessory fan should run, right? Well it doesn't. I let the car warm up well, checked top and bottom hoses (both hot), ran the heater, and double checked the fuse panel on top of the battery. So, am I looking at a bad relay? With both fans not working, i'm assuming it's either that, or the fan control module. Someone please give me a suggestion!

If you are getting voltage past the fuse box, then pull the cable from the thermo switch one more time. With a voltmeter check for voltage between the red wire and ground. If you have voltage, then the control module should good.
did you check the underside of the fuse box?

Default damn

OK, there is voltage to the thermo-switch, voltage past the fuse box, and I replaced the temp sensor on the coolant flange. Would've replaced the other one, but the stealer gave me the wrong one. Jumping the wires in the thermo-switch connecter did nothing both with the switch on or off. Would the relay cause both fans not to work at all? That's another $30 part just to go through the elimination process. I figured replacing the sensors is something I'm going to have to do at some point anyway. I'm about to give up and send it to the shop for a diagnostic. Any other suggestions before I start emptying my wallet on this common problem?? Anyone in Honolulu with a vag-com?

Default diagnosed

Got the car diagnosed at a reputable local shop that deals only with VW and Audi. 1.5 hours of labor at the tune of $130 told me that both of my fan motors were bad, and so is my fan control module. Lucky for me, I found a dual fan assembly on ebay for a little over $200 shipped to Hawaii. The dealer wanted over $200 just for the drivers side fan (crazy!). I hope this works! Anyone know the cheapest place for the fan control module?

Check the fuse panel on top of the battery.
I will bet that one of the fuses is melted (same thing happened to me).
What happens is the fuse blows, but due to the design, it melts into the housing. This causes the cicut to remain in place and the fan gets spikes and fry's. It will also wipe out your condensor fan, hence the ac not working.
