Default Labor time for PS Rack & Pinion

Anyone know what the labor (amt of hrs) it would take a mechanic to replace my PS rack and pinion on my 99 Beetle? My mechanic quoted me 6 hrs. I think that kind of high, maybe 2 hrs is more like it.

Simple do a search and see what the mitchell say's for hrs.... That's the book mechanic's use to estimate job's.... Sound's about right though...He'll charge you for six hours and do it in about three...that's how they make money...

yea you do have to drop the sub frame to get to it so i would not say that is to far off...if you can find somebody to do it in 2 hours....i would be very impressed

Took me about 5 hours to do mine, so yeah 6 hours is not far off.

Budget for a PAS pump as well, my rack went (rusted out!) then the pump followed a week later!
