Wasn't there an HID option at some time for the new bug? And I'm wondering if an aftermarket HID kit would work ok on mine. Anyone have this?

Works fine on our '00 NB

Bought an aftermarket HID kit and its fine, luckily the standard NB headlights being Projector type are ok for HID's

I was worried about the DRLs that use less power than when you actually turn on the headlights. So they work ok then....good to know.

I was pretty close on getting HIDs in my vehicle, but my headlights look like crap.

I want to replace those before putting those in... seems new headlight fixtures arnt cheap.

Id do the lens kit myself.. but I know I would ruin them. Im not that patient.

wound up getting new bulbs, but I want them brighter still! (seems my halo automotive bulbs arnt that good.. the DRL ones)

My kit took about 30 minutes to install.... But you need to delete your DRLS as they don't operate properly with HIDS... Simple fix is to bend one of the tabs behind your light switch...no i don't remember which one but could look for ya when you're ready to do the install... Also be aware that 5000k is just slightly blue...the higher the Kelvin (k)number the more blue to purple the light will be... I wanted 5000k but could not get them at the time of purchase so mine are 6000k and look like most OEM HIDS(Slightly blue).....GL...KP...

Either the TFL or the B pin. To be on the safe side, bend both . Thats what I did.

I really don't want to get rid of the DRLs if I don't have to but I will. What'll happen if I don't? It's only a couple watts less in power....they won't work at all?

If you install a relay to work directly off the battery. The relay mod is here somewhere. It will be like a switch the stock low power will turn on relay and give the new aftermarket ballast all the power it needs direct from the battery. I found the mod here. You will not loose the DRL if you do this.

good luck!

To answer an original question: yes, there was a factory HID option from like 2003/4 to 2006 I believe.

I have a 5000K hid kit, and it works brilliantly (no pun intended!)

But do you still have the DRLs working and if so, do they work ok. If not, what did you do?

Op... this is what you need to do with an HID kit if you want DRLS...

No. You have to disable the DRLs to make the HID kit work. On my vert, I bent the TFL pin down. Some others you have to bend the B pin down, both of which are on the back of the headlight switch. I did it before I installed the kit as to make sure it all disabled properly.

Same here and i bent both.

I bought my HIDs here from DDMtuning. I'd recommend you get the slim ballast kit as those ballasts you stick in the hole right behind the headlights. No need to worry about mounting them. I wish i knew that before i bought mine, but mounting them wasn't too hard.

Took about 1 hour because i had some trouble getting my headlight buckets out.

BEST $45 i've EVER spent!

Also, i disabled my DRLs too. Seriously, why do you NEED them? If people can't see your car coming without headlights during the day, they shouldn't be driving.

Instead of deleting the DRLs , another option would be the installtion of the DRL kit available here in Canada that will turn on the headlights whenever the vehicle is on . Its normally used on vehicles that come into Canada from other countries that normally don't have DRLs , but in order to pass the federal safety inspection it must have some sort of DRLs . This kit just turns on the lights when the key is turned on .

No need to buy a separate kit for DRLs as most good quality HID kits c\w the relay harness for the kit so you can keep your DRLs. As stated already...??

All NBs have DRLs so there's no need to add a DRL kit. I've installed the HID kit and it works perfectly. I did disable the DRLs but I think I'll try enabling them again to see what happens.

They will burn-out prematurely...

HIDs can't "burn out". Are you talking about the ballasts maybe?

Its called a DRL kit , but all it does is turn on your lights all the time so they work as DRLs .
