ive been using 10w 30. is this the currect oil i should be using for my 2001 2.0?

IIRC, the owner's manual recommends a 5w40, though it says 5w30 will do in a pinch.

i use mobil 1 0w40 syst in my vw beetle 2.0 2003 modle it meets vw spec for this engine vw 502/505/ and others.

Mobil 1 0w40. Has VW 502.00/505.00/503.01 specifications, while other weights do not.

Run it, it'll make your NB love you more.

NO, synthetic oil is the correct stuff to use.

I run 10W-40 Castrol GTX (which is non-synthetic). Since we're keeping the car long term, it will be an interesting experiment.

I'm pleased with the 10W-40... it doesn't use any between 3000-3500 mile oil changes. I figure it is a little thicker on start up (the 10W part) BUT it is the correct weight once the oil has heated up (the 40 part). Since we're in a mild climate here in Georgia, how much different could this be vs. 5W-40 in Michigan?
