Has anyone ever changed the bulb in the rear red marker light? Does the red lens pop off somehow? Is the bulb available from a regular parts store?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Are you talking about the third brake light?

No, I'm talking about the small red marker light in the rear left & right side below the taillights

I borrowed this explanation from another thread on here:

Here's the simple process of removing the rear lenses on the NB.
[b]Tools needed for this Mod:[b/]
Small Flathead Screwdriver
Some electrical tape (or rag substitute)
15 minutes of labor time

Removing or changing the rear corner light assemblies and accessing the rear license plate bulbs are probably the easiest technical mods done to the NB.

The rear corner lenses are easily removed by carefully inserting a small flathead screwdriver head into the inboard side of the assembly (covered with either protective tape, or a rag). Once inserted, apply light pressure to wedge the assembly out of the bumper opening - just far enough to finish removing with your hand.

I searched around, found this thread, but it did not answer the question about what type of bulb is it?

I would like to know beforehand before I walk into a parts store and hope their system is correct.

I have a 02 Turbo S so I know the marker lenses are slightly different but is the bulb the same and what bulb is it?

I used Sylvania 2825 bulbs on the side markers on my TurboS, I think these are the same bulb for all beetles.

Yep, thats exactly what I got today after work at Advanced Auto after thumbing through their book.

I got home, popped the flat head out on my Gerber tool and changed the light in like 20 seconds....in the rain lol.

If only all light bulb replacements were that easy.

I didn't even notice the light was out until I installed the euro switch today. I wanted to see the parking light setting for the first time and walked around the car and saw one out.

Truth is, before today I seriously thought those markers were reflectors. I can't believe after a year I never noticed they lit up. Guess there wasn't a time where I ever got out with the lights still on!
