Default STICKY 5th GEAR

My wife was driving the Beetle today and said she had trouble shifting into 5th gear? Said it felt like 5th gear felt "locked" and couldn't go into it after 4th.

Any ideas or thoughts??????????

david, my man...couple things.

first off, cable adjustment. try that, see how that does you. search youtube for "02j transmission adjustment".

second is a gear lube change. it's definitely not a lifetime fluid. i change mine every 60k.

Question

It might be your transmission oil, if not it;s best to have it checked by a professional. You should test drive it to be sure, maybe your wife wasn't pressing the clutch all the way in when shifting?

or the cable adjustment is off.

i see it all the time on these cars, in fact when i get a stick in for a major service, i usually align them free of charge because it's that easy.

W@W! Those were quick answers! I'll check the fluid first and then I'd check the adjustment... if I knew how?

Does it do this often? Could it have been a driver error?

Default Thanks Again For All Your Help!

Thanks to everyone. Clean the linkage under the air filter box... lot of gunk buildup and now she runs fine!
