Default SAI Variant???

OK, I've come across a 2.0 in the UK, its an auto which is relatevly rare here and it has a puzzle.
  • It has the SAI pump and hoses.
  • It has the combi valve at the rear of the engine on the exhaust manifold.
  • It does not have the combi valve control vacuum lines or solenoid mounted above the air filter box that I have seen on every other 2.0
  • It does not appear to have had the solenoid and lines removed, the studs used to mount the solenoid don't appear to have been ever used. There appears to be no stub pipe on the combi valve that a vac line would attach to.
  • It does not throw a CEL for the SAI
  • The SAI pumlp runs as expected.

So, how the heck is the combi valve controlled???

It is throwing random and cyl 2 & 3 misfire codes but I'll cover those in a different thread...

Well it might be easier using this, basically this car is missing items 4 & 5 ie the solenoid and the two vacuum lines, the one to the manifold and the one to the combi valve. Everything else look normal except the combi valve does not have a pipe stub for the vacuum line nor can I see an opening as if it had been broken off (working with mirrors and a camera phone here).

On my car the solenoid (item 4) is mounted just below the left windshield wiper at the top of the engine bay in plain view. The mounting studs are there but are in factory-finish, never had anything screwed to them, and no wring plug (item 5) either!

Here is another oddity for you; my '99 AEG does not even have an SAI system.

That I can cope with, but to have half of one and it doesn't throw a CEL

It looks identical to the one on my manual - except it doesn´t appear to have a vac control port with a stub pipe for the vac line
