As per the "SAI Variant" thread I have been asked to look at a 2.0 auto that is throwing random and cyl 2 & 3 misfire codes.
It has had the following replaced:
- plugs (by others, VERY tight so haven't pulled them - worried they may be overtorqued)
- plug wires (by me)
- Coil pack (by the same others, genuine VW part by the look of it)
- MAF (by the same others, genuine Bosch part by the look of it)
- fuel filter (by me)
- Coolant temp sensor (although this may need changing again, she also throws CTS-related codes as before, the securing clip is broken on that connector but she seems seated well enough)
It has had the following checked (by me):
- vac line to the FPR
- All other vac lines (although it has no SAI combi valve control vac lines or solenoid as per the other thread
- All engine sensor wiring connectors for clean and seated status
The car will behave for some time but then gives lack of power/dying out symptoms at all engine speeds.
I can provoke the misfire codes by shifting between D or R and N - usually worse when shifting into N.
No other engine codes are posted, no transmission or other codes
The owner is currently considering whether to take it back to the shop that fitted the plugs as I can't check them without risk, they may be wrong/damaged etc, just can't tell without getting them out...
Apparantly the car was taken to the shop for the oil light being on, they fitted the MAF, coil pack, plugs and airfilter as well as a new sump, oil pump, oil pressure and oil level sensors. Current owner reports it was driving fine prior to the oil light with no misfiring so assume the shop either discovered or caused a misfiring problem while they had it, else they "upsold" to include the new ignition components.
Any other ideas?
