I imagine you used a voltmeter?

If there is no voltage present at the compressor. Did you run a resistance test?

I did not read that thread until now. My brother is the one doing the work for me and i know he used a voltmeter I do not know if he tested resistance. From what i gathered from watching him was we bought the Chilton book and it said to pull off the relay under the hook and jump pins 1 and 2 to engage the clutch. My brother said both pins 1&2 had no voltage so jumping them would do nothing. He then looked at a wire diagram and said we needed to find the control module but we could not located it and my brother being 6'7 tall and this being a beetle did not work well together.

What steps should i tell him to take

Wow! Third post same issue, multiple posts make it difficult to provide help as it causes confusion. Pick one of your posts noted below (delete the other two to prevent confusion), post a recap of what you have tried and the results and lets go from there.
