Default exhaust question

I have a quick question about the exhaust on my 98 NB. Downstream from the catalytic converter but before the muffler is what I assume is the resonator. Between the resonator and the cat there seems to be a press fit joint joining the cat and the resonator. It appears that this joint has come apart on me and is causing quite a racket. Is there a home garage fix for this or am I looking and replacing this whole section of exhaust between the cat and the resonator? The parts seem to be fixed at each end to their respective mates (i.e the resonator and the catalytic converter), but it is hard for me to tell with the car being so bloody low. Don't really want to get into an exhaust on the Canada Day long weekend, particularly when I already have plans to replace the exhaust with a better one as soon as funds permit. Any home fixes would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know of a home remedy - but any respectable muffler shop should tack weld it back in place for you for 20 bucks. Especially if you let them know you'll be back for new exauhst when you can afford it.

I just got chrome tips put on Remo here and they found that exact issue with him. They went ahead and welded it back together for me at no extra charge for now.

Hopefully somebody can give you a hand or maybe there is a good quick fix someone can jump in here with involving super hose clamps or something?

Take care,
- Hap

Thanks for that. I would weld it myself if I could my girl high enough. Might have to invest in a hoist for the garage if I am going to keep doing my own work!

Do it yourself is great when you have all the tools, space, lifts, etc. Sometimes it's worth the while to pay a little more for a professional.

Tell me about it! Working on my wife's Sonata was never a problem, but it sits a decent height off the ground. Sometimes its too bad that I love the NB so much!

love for a car no matter how low it is, is changing the oil on the side of the interstate the factory jack, a bottle jack, and 2 jack stands to get her in the air. These cars are obnoxiously low, but where there is a will, there is a way.

Although I dont have an answer for you question. Might I suggest some high-temp exhaust tape. That may give you a quick fix untill you get a new exhaust. But that suggestion may be stupid.
