Default Where on earth is this?

So, in this month-long ordeal to get my compressor working, I have a blockage. It's in the filters of the A/C line.
Where is said filter? I need a description and a picture/schematic (if possible).

Just gotta find where these filter(s?) are and replace them. Sold at local part stores?

Please let me know ASAP. I have a 2000 NB 2.0

I'm guessing you are talking about the filter/dryer? If you have to ask, you need to take it to a shop that does A/C work. The system needs to be discharged using the proper equipment, the part replaced, then the system will need to be purged (by pulling a vacuum) and checked for leaks and then filled with the proper amount of R-134A and oil.

Guys, I don't need to hear this over and over. I know these things. My mechanic is doing it. I am not talking about the receiver drier, but an in-line filter somewhere. My assumption is in the dash before the condenser. That is if this even exists, I'm just going off of what he (my mechanic) is saying.

No offense but I'm getting really fed up as the "you know nothing take it to a shop" posts. Don't worry about it-just answer my question as best as you can. I assure you (with my other rides) I'm not clueless at all, haha.

What your talking about is the expansion valve or also know as orfice tube. It controls the amount of pressure the high side builds, hence the orfice (resistance). The expansion valve has a inline screen the help catch debris from clogging the orfice.

You might want to do some more investagation. Why so much debris in a sealed system? Drier coming apart, maybe.

Also, if you're going to be doing a lot of repairs yourself, get a vacuum generator from Harbor Freight. They cost about $20, and run off a compressor. They create 30 inches of vacuum in less than 10 minutes. This what we use, and it saves a lot of money.

Oh yeah, it's on the firewall, on the engine side, not the cabin side.

Perhaps you could be more descriptive in your posts? If you read your original post, for someone not aware of the "rest of the story" it would appear that you were trying to take this on yourself. Generally when people have a mechanic work on their car, the mechanic finds the problem, gets the part, and fixes the problem.

And no, this has nothing to do with the fact that you are female. It has to do with how you worded your post.

Thanks for your posts, everyone~

Okay, thanks for the location! I'll let him know, since the expansion valve was replaced yesterday.

Debris was caused by a failing compressor- clutch grinded and I have shards all caught up somewhere. After replacing the drier and compressor the debris went somewhere, likely in a filter, hence the high on low and low on high. So, expansion valve was replaced.

Any other filter or place that debris would be caught up? My lines inside of the engine were cleared out.

Vacuum pumps are impossible to get here, it's awful. Long story short, after doing the compressor and drier, I had my mechanic vacuum and try to fill it.

No other screens or filter in the system. Since a torn up pump, the only thing else I would do is blow out the lines and coils. Since they have oil in the system, metal particles would stick inside, easier.

Good luck!

If that's the case I'll have him blow everything out, hopefully I won't have to replace my drier again. :\ (If something magically decided to place debris THERE, but that's just pessimistic-annoyed-with-VW-owner )

Thank you!
