Finally guys I have a video of my car. It was taken with a cell phone, so the quality and sound is bad. The engine sounds buzzy, but in real life, it doesn't sound that way. I hope you enjoy. Oh, my mods are, magnaflow exhaust, Neuspeed short ram intake, and Upsolute chip. It keeps going that way till about 100, and then creeps to about 125. I stopped at 80 because I don't need another ticket (lol).

For a camera phone it sounds pretty good. You drive like I do, rev it to the moon. What is most amaizing to me is the time it took you to get there. After driving my turbo it sounds like it is working really hard to get up to speed. Keep up the good work!

I've never heard a 2.0 sound like that, then again, i never go over 5000 rpm.

Yeah, as much as I love my car, it has to work pretty hard to get any speed going. Cool vid tho.

You drive your 2.0 like I do mine, though mine does not sound as mean. I only wish... he's a big lovable goofball like his owner, couldn't fighten a goose if he tried (and he has.. many, many time... that or canada geese are deaf).

So how does that compare to a 1.8t?

What kind of mods are you running. I seem to have the reverse affect. 1 is sluggish, 2nd is a little better and third is where I begin to pull.

Mine is an auto, so that might be why ours differ. I have a Magnaflow catback, neuspeed short ram intake with heat shield, and Upsoute chip. I really noticed a big gain with the exhaust. The only thing the chip did was give me more low and mid torque, and it smoothed out the power band. Where my car really shines is 90-110. When you plant the throttle at that speed, it just shoots there. The 2.0 would be a crazy engine if it was dual cam, or had some sorta VTEC or VVTL-i, becasue I still have hardly any top end, like above 6000 RPM. I have beaten 1.8t golfs on the interstate at top speed before, but I dunno. How does this compare to the 1.8T, guys?

It doesn't, not at all.

I drive a 2.0 too, so I'm not putting you down, but my stock manual could beat your modded automatic, assuming it's not tiptronic.

it's good to redline a 2.0. not like you're using full engine capacity anyway.

^ I agree.

I drive it like that too when im in the mood (most of the time )
The 1.8t and 2.0 are completely different beasts. I have owned both of them, and the turbo is just SO much faster. I was actually giggling at how long it took your car to get to even just 80, whereas the turbo it would have been to like 100 or higher by that same time. I own a 2.0 now so im not dissin' either, but no matter how much you mod the 2.0, unless you put a turbo or supercharge it, it wont compare.

Yea whitacre... I totally dissagre.....
My friend and I have been tuning the 2.0 for a wile now. I aggree that you would need a turbo to reach the 250-300 hp mark.
But.. hes puling 186whp and 201 wtq in a moded 2.0 n/a.
Gaic chip, 350cc injectors, 4 bar fuel pressure reg, Headers, Intake, MSD FSI Spark plugs/wires/coil, Intake and jurnals bored out, catback exhaust. aprox $2500 worth of work.
Oh and lets not for get the 93 oct gas, and sytnech oil lol..

The 2.0 has alot more potental then most 4 cyls out. The bottem end of the motor has been proven to hold 500bhp...
And can even put some Highly tuned VR6's to shame.

As for the vid. Very nice. It would be faster if it was manuel tho . BTW. for a camra phone. Thats pretty good quality of a vid

Post a dyno if it's true, that would change a lot of opinions.

Not bad...sounds pretty decent.

For 100k, that thing pulls.

To whoever said the 2.0 can pull 186whp N/A, please post a dyno. I believe it, but I need to see it so I can prove peeps wrong (that and a mod list)

edit: I had the same mods (minus the porting/MSD stuff/injectors and add a 266 cam) and I was 145whp. There's more tricks that he's not listing.

more info would be great. Like what kind of dyno the pulls where made on. I am not saying those numbers are not possible, but I believe what I see. And from my past experiences you cannot touch 186 Wheel Horsepower on the mods listed above. With a strong motor you could dip into the 150- ish range, but, 30 horsepower is a lot in a NA 8v.

Sure if you can prove it that it can be pulled off (which i dont NOT believe, i know the 2.0 is a strong engine), it would be a huge waste of a lot of money to get the 2.0 faster than the turbo. Thtas like what....3 to 5 grand in mods? Why would someone want a 2.0 that bad? I mean anything can be modded to death to hopefully be faster than its turbo sibling, but is it really worth it when you could just buy a turbo.

1.8t...

nothing like taking a small engine and putting an even smaller turbo on it. can we say cheap HP?

the 2.0 may not be terribly fast, but thank God it's reliable! besides, it's a volkswagen, get over it!

I had a 2.slow VW in the 90's and only becuz the NB was behind schedule and I needed transport; 'ugh' is my only comment...once you've tasted the sweet power of the 1.8T, you are hooked foreva...
