I have a 98 vw beetle. 2.0 liter gas engine. We have replaced the water pump and timing belt, ended up having head rebuilt. We are ready to put everything back together now. We are having a problem with the torque sequence and how to torque the cylinder head bolts. We are not sure about how tight they need to be. Any help would be appreciated...

Use new stretch bolts. Torque center first (fwd and aft) then criss cross the remaining 8 bolts moving outboard from center. Tighten in 3 stages.
Stage 1-30 ft-lb Stage 2-additional 90 degrees Stage 3-additional 90 degrees |
