Default Foam Blowing Out of Vents

I've been dealing with the chunks of gray foam and debris blowing out of my vents for about 6 months now. I don't have an issue with my air temperatures, they are fine. It's just a PITA when I get my car detailed. I just took it to my expert VW mechanic yesterday and he said it would cost $1800 to fix it. The heater core needs to be replaced, or for $1100 they can pull the heater core and re-foam it. Are there any cheaper options? Thanks.

Its not the heater core, its the blend door: Blend Door DIY

If you aren't noticing any temp problems, then I wouldn't really worry about it. The effort to fix it is pretty high if you aren't having any problems. I had it blowing out of my vents for a few years with no real problems. Still kept me nice and cool in the summer and nice and toasty in the winter.
