Question no low beams +no turn signals

Have a 1999 NB with 175,000 miles.
Prior to the turn signals and low beams issue, the *brake* light was flashing on the console.I worked the handbrake, still flashing way.
I replaced the hazard/turn signal relay/fuse and the headlight switch -with the same results-nothing.
I checked the fuses on the drivers side door of the dash-fuses all good.
any suggestions would be appreciated and Thank You

Ignition switch is a possibility. You can test it if you have the instructions. I don't understand what the harzard/turn signal relay/fuse mean but you probably have a bad combination switch.

The BRAKE flash problem is quite common I had it too. It's probably caused by low charging voltage which can be caused by a low idle speed, bad alternator, dying battery, etc. You can tell it by monitoring the charging voltage when driving(which is not easy...)

Pull your headlight switch and check the connections. Unhook the connector and plug it back in. Test the low beam wire with a digital volt meter.

Not sure about your brake light coming on. When is the last time you checked the brakes?

Let's see-
The alternator and battery was replaced 11/10
brakes were checked 3/11

Will check the headlight switch-low beam wire
After that, I'm taking it to the import shop

Thanks again

Also check to see if you have your fan controls. If those are out as well, chances are good that your ignition switch is kaput.

If it's an ignition switch, it's a relatively easy fix/replacement. Maybe you could DIY and save you some coins.

Keep us posted on the outcome.

BTW, noticed you're a "carolina Chick"? Awesome. We have a BIG new beetle get together in May- the Tail of the Dragon cruise/weekend, in the North Carolina mountains. It would be cool if you, yours and your beetle can join us. See the link in my signature.

Default Success!!

It was the ignition switch. My brother wanted the challenge--so he replaced it this afternoon, took about 1 1/2 hrs start to finish.

Said the hardest part was deactivating the airbag and he did take the instrument cluster off to get a better access to the backside of the steering wheel/column.

He bought the Torx wrenches at Harbor Freight for $20.00

Thank You

Congrats
However, it seems like your brother kinda took the long way around to doing the job. What I did was remove the tilt wheel handle, took off the collar around the steering wheel column and pretty much had easy access to the switch.... easy off- easy on. But hey, brother got it done and fixed the problem.... that's what counts. Way to go brother
