Default Engine errors:00588 and 17990 Help!!

I have a 2000 vw beetle currently with engine block light on and airbag light

ive had the cam belt and sensor changed but still the light is on, the airbag light mysteriously came on when an rac guy changed the ignition switch so im not sure if he has dislodged a wire under the dash or the driver seat.

the errors shown are airbag igniter driver side,N95 resistance too low?

And the 17990 code states idle adaption limit reached.

Anybodt have some advice on this i would be extremely grateful for the insight.

thanks
matthew

Had experience with 17990 - - - a good cleaning of the throttle body took care of it. Can't address the air bag code.

For the 17990 I'd start with a TB adaptation. And the airbag code...looks like you need to be VERY careful when addressing it, as it deals with the igniter. Otherwise, here is info:

17990/P1582/005506 - Ross-Tech Wiki
17990/P1582/005506 - Idle Adaptation Limit Reached
Possible Solutions

Check Fuel Pressure
Check Intake System for Leaks (False Air)
Check Fuel Injector(s)
Check Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve (N80)
Check Exhaust System for Leaks
Check Secondary Air Injection (AIR) for Leaks
Check Vacuum Lines for Leaks
Check Throttle Body

---------------------------------------------------

00588 - Ross-Tech Wiki
00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver Side (N95)
00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver Side (N95): Resistance too Low
00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver Side (N95): Resistance too High
00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver side (N95): Short to positive
00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver side (N95): Short to ground
Possible Symptoms

Airbag Warning Light active

Possible Causes

Wiring from/to Airbag Igniter Driver Side (N95) faulty
Coil Spring with Slip Ring (F138) faulty
Airbag Igniter Driver Side (N95) faulty

Possible Solutions

Check Wiring from/to Airbag Igniter Driver Side (N95)
Check Coil Spring with Slip Ring (F138)
Check Airbag Igniter Driver Side (N95)

Special Notes

When "Short to positive" or "Short to ground" is found, DO NOT CLEAR THE DTC. This can cause the airbag to deploy. See repair manual for more information.

Check the wires under the driver seat. 80% airbag codes are due to the cracked wires under driver seat.

The idle adaption limit code is quite easy just clean throttle it will be gone.

With the code pointing to the igniter, I don't think its the driver seat as it usually is.

Probably, but who knows if the 2 wires are short?

I'm just going by the codes...and this one seems that you need to be extraordinarily careful since its dealing with the igniter.

I would take the car back where you got the work done and see if they'll help you out. Sounds like they may have messed up something when they did the ignition switch when it comes to the airbag light.

Default Airbag light on

Yeh it could well be as the light only came on in the first place when the RAC guy changed the Ignition switch so maybe he dislodged a cable under the steering wheel??
