Default Steering Wheel Removal-98 Beetle???

I want to put a new style VW steering wheel on my 1998 Beetle. How do I remove the airbag so I can remove the steering wheel?

Something about a clip behind the steering wheel????

Thanks in advance~!

Well you can walk into an Autozone or Advanceautoparts or Pepboys take a look at the Haynes Manual it has a detailed instruction on how to disable the airbag and how to remove the steering wheel.

To disable and enable airbags:

Disable:
1. turn key to LOCK, then remove the key
2. disconnect battery(Negative is enough but I suggest you take off both)
3. wait at least 2 minutes for the backup power source to drain
4. remove driver side knee panel and disconnect the yellow airbag's connector
5. remove glove box and disconnect the yellow airbag's connector

Enable:
1. make sure key is in LOCK
2. connect the 2 yellow connectors
3. connect battery
4. with body out of the way of airbags, turn key to ON, make sure the airbag light goes off after 5 glows which indicates airbag system functioning properly.
