Default Engine races at idle

I removed my battery and tray to fix my reverse light switch and wire. Put it back together and now the engine races. At idle, it revs to 3 grand quickly and drops to idle. The throttle control module is causing it, you can watch it go to WOT and then back down. Before today the TCM used to buzz at first, for three seconds after start up, not today. Did it get shorted out somehow?
I can't get it scanned until tonight. Just trying to figure it out.

Any ideas?

I would check all your wires and vaccume lines in that area. I noticed when I was fixing mine there was quite a bit of crap in and around the battery. I wouldn't think you could have shorted anything out since it's all in plastic housings but you never know...
Good luck with it

Nevermind people.. I did some research and I have to have the throttle body adaptation done. I guess I have to buy a Vag-com. I don't understand, I've had the battery disconnected 5 or 6 times in the past and never had to relearn the TB.
My wife is going to kill me, these things are expensive. She'll make me sell the car, next. Anyone know the cheapest place to purchase one?

There are no deals on the "Real Deal" Ross Tech Vag Com units.
It's $249 for the Interface and software that works for your car. Or if you think you will ever own a "Newer" Volkswagen that has a Can bus you can purchase the $349 unit which will cover all Volkswagen cars that are out today. Well except for the really old ones that don't have an OBDII port.

Ross-Tech Store: VCDS License with KII-USB Interface

Or this in case you buy any 2003+ cars that use the CAN bus:

Ross-Tech Store: VCDS License with HEX-USB+CAN Interface

Oh, don't bother with those Cheap Ebay cables. I bought two of them and neither of them would work on my Vista or Windows 7 laptops. And even if you get it to work. I was told that the cheap cables will only allow you to do some diagnostics but not let you make any changes to your car like the regular versions with the proper interface.

Why not see if anyone in your area has a VAg Com? That way it will safe you a lot of money and they will gladly help you out.
