Question My baby went horn crazy...

Tonight was a new experience of weirdness - even for a NB! As I sat idling at a red light, my 2003 GL's horn suddenly blared - not honking - it was as if I were laying on the horn without let up. I pulled over into a parking lot and shut her off, and the horn stopped. I turned the key on to lower the window, and the horn went off again. I also noticed that my daylight running lights weren't coming on. (The headlights work fine, as does all the other electrical that I tested). Has anyone else been through something like this? It really freaked me out. I couldn't driver her with the horn blaring, so I had her towed home. The tow driver thought it was the alarm and we tried to reset the alarm by using the key in the door handle trick. Didn't work. Help?

First off, rather than have it towed, I would have reached under the front and pulled the connector of the horn, or pulled the fuse, depending which worked, so if you want to use it, do one of those

Second is tracing the fault, either you have a sticky horn switch or a dead short, one of the two, if it was the alarm, the horn would be intermittent not continues but then staranger things happen at sea :-). Check the fuses and bulbs on the running lights as this may just be a coincidence, I live feed short would make them come on if connected to the horn.

Good Hunting

I would check the horn relay, and see if it's stuck shut. If that isn't it, then the horn switch in the steering wheel. My old air cooled Beetle did the same and it was the steering wheel.
