Looks like its your camshaft position sensor:

P0341 is the camshaft sensor code. Will run ok without it(VW? not sure) but runs smoother with it functioning. On Buick Reatta 3.8 had to glue - epoxy a magnet into the cam gear by taking sensor out and sticking magnet through hole. Don't know about VW. you may have just broken the sensor...the plastic piece. Should be around ...where cam gear or pulley is. Good luck. The fix will smooth idle and acceleration
...has to do with perfect injector timing. Now running in predictive mode. |

Thanks for responding, but I already knew it was the cam sensor. I was trying to find out if anyone has drove one with this same code. Well anyways, I drove it to work this morning with no problems. Now, let's see if it makes it home.
I ordered a new one last night, will be here Friday morning. |

I just changed the sensor and still the same code. I checked the timing and alignment marks align up, well close. The cam mark is a 1/2 tooth before the O.T. arrow mark. I did find the plug wires 2&3 crossed, according to the repair manual. After moving the wires to correct plug, it has a slight pause as I try to rev it up.
I'm wondering if I move the cam sprocket 1 tooth, to put it a 1/2 tooth on the other side of the arrow, will help. Any ideas people? My wife is pi$$ed and wants to push it over the hill. |

I suggest you first log the cam sensor data from VAG-COM to see if the computer really receives signal from the sensor. I guess you might damaged the wire during head removal thus the computer is not receiving signal from the sensor.
The cyl2&3 wire exchange shouldn't have any effect. I used to do like this and nothing happens different. You can try change the timing but....According to my experience the mark should align good I think you might have observed from a wrong angle. |

Now the storms has past, I went out and did the voltage checks for the sensor. I'm getting 4.9 volts at wires #1&3, and 10.1 volts at wire #2 and ground on rotation. according to the repair manual that's good. There's a paragraph that says if all is good, it might be the ECM. I have a Neuspeed chipped ECM, and it won't throw a CEL. You have to have to check codes when something seems wrong.
I guess the next step is pull the dash apart and back probe the ECM and make sure the voltage is making it back to the controller. |
