Default Battery Light? More drama . . .

Anyway, it's lit and it's RED!

Any idea what it might be? I recently had it in the VW shop to get the 60k service done and also had the Cat converter (warranty) replaced along with the serpentine belt.

I had to have my battery replaced because it had begun to have problems as well and it failed the load test.

So what am I looking at here?

The battery light means your alternator is not outputting... I'd take it by a parts store or shop and have it checked.

I'd put money on the fact that the alternator is not working. Good call.

Quick question, would it be under warranty?

2002 NB a bit over 59k. I got a bad feelin' about the answer.

edit:
This morning I started her up and everything was ok. I think I'll still be taking Tesla to the 'zone and have them test the alternator.

So . . . I waited too long.

Tesla had been running good. Every once in a while on start-up, the battery (alternator) light would go red and warn me of something, but then go off again on the next start-up. I was going to have it checked next week. She didn't hold out that long.

I went to Gilroy to check out the new Guitar Center there, about a half-hour drive. Everything was good, we made it there and bought some small items that were on sale and made plans for bigger purchases later. I started her up again to go back home and she came up with that damn light again!

She was running good until I was just about home and she started to shift a little roughly, and taking a little longer to shift. But I got home ok and didn't think much of it. I figured I was over-analyzing things.

That was Monday.

Tuesday morning . . . started Tesla up. No light, alright! Almost at work and just as I'm about to hit the offramp to take my exit, the radio and the dashboard lights dimmed (dark, rainy morning here). The radio actually went off and came on again. The ABS light on the dash came on, then the airbag light, then Tesla shifted to a lower gear and it wasn't too smooth. I pulled into a shopping center but I was afraid to shut her off.

I sat thinking for a minute. I figured, maybe I can make it to work and she'll be ok until this weekend when I take her to the shop!

I pull out and head to work.

I'm on one of those roads out in the boonies that a lot of people take because it's a major roadway. I begin to slow down to turn on the street I need to get on and Tesla begins to lose power. She shifts to a lower gear and I'm just crawling up a little hill, hoping against hope that she makes it over to pull over to the side. Again, I'm on another major roadway because there happens to be a school further up the road.

I just make it to a nice open spot to park in and she begins to beep like crazy! I felt like a pilot where everything was going wrong with the plane and I was about to go down!

Once I got her parked, the beeping continued and ALL the dashboard lights came on. I was only about a mile away from work. But it was raining. I shut Tesla off. I called my boss and let him know what was going on and asked if he could pick me up.

To shorten the story a bit (too late?), I was able to start her up again later that morning. She ran like a champ . . . with a battery light on. I got to the highway and almost made it to the dealer. I called the towing service again, letting them know that I may need them after all (I had canceled the call once before).

Because our babies need special flatbed tow-trucks, I was gonna have to wait until one was available. Half an hour later, I was still waiting. I tried to start her up again. She did! I cancelled the tow once more, informing them I may still need them.

I just made it to the dealer, again with all the plane-is-going-down drama.

I was supposed to have her back today I'm still waiting. The damage is gonna be $829. They were supposed to have the part today, but the part received was wrong. I should have it tomorrow. Maybe?

I have question for you fellow NB'ers, should I ask for the old alternator or ask for a discount because of the core value?

Default More drama . . .

I thought I was going to get my baby today. Nope!

Apparently when the alternator went, so did some wiring. I got a feeling I'm gonna be paying closer to $2K.

I knew I should've gone to Wester Volkswagen. I had no other choice though!
