Question Brake Pad - one w/ Sensor one w/o

My daughter's 2000 beetle needed new brake pads. Jacked up passenger side and saw it did not have a brake sensor. Went to part store and bought some high quality pads. Installed passenger side ... when I went to driver side I notice that the driver side HAD a brake sensor! Is this normal? I installed the 'sensorless' brake pad for now ... of course, the ABS sensor light remains on though.

Any suggestions?

Should I go back and order brake pad with sensor?
Is it normal that one side had sensor and the other did not?
I've taped up the lead wire for the driver side pad sensor with electrical tape for now ... but don't know if this is going to be a problem later on.

Concerned that the ABS light seems to be used for both the brake pad (which is now disconnected) and of course for ABS.

yes, it is normal to only have one side with a brake pad sensor.

it in no way will effect your braking or your ABS system to keep the pads you have now.

what you can do to get rid of the light is find a VAG COM and have them recode your system to one without the sensor.

should take all of 5 minutes to do.

OR you can get a new set of pads from a place like TDIparts.com or ECStuning.com or worldimpex.com and keep the light active.

its up to you.

Or, find the old set of pads. Then clip the wires, strip off the insulation, and twist together. Then plug that pig tail into your current brake sensor plug.
Only down side is that you will not know if the pads are worn out without looking.
