I have 98' NB. Anyone knows if its possible to just replace The shifter knob, and how do you go about removing it?

pull up the shift boot it pulls up then there is a metal clip you cut off and a black circular piece with teeth that holds the boot to the knob pull it down and the knob pops off

Can I retain the old shift boot with the new Knob?
