Question When you first start your engine . . . .

Have you ever / Or do you ever hear a sound that kinda sounds like a vaccum and then after warming up, it shuts off ( the vaccum sound that is)? Is this normal? Is something loose? My NB is running fine. Just noticed the sound.

That vacuum sound is your air pump and it's normal.

Nice. . . thanks!!

Oh! Can I ask another question on the same thread? Wait I just asked one . . . ANYWAY

Should I just bite the bullet and pay $100 - $200 to get my vaccum hoses replaced? Or should I just do it myself? Once again I know everyone says that it's a easy task but seriously I am SCARED. I DO NOT want to HURT the engine!

I never start driving until my RPM's drop below the 1k mark. If you notice it is just above 1k for about a minute or two. Not really input on your question, just a comment, lol.

Manual says "The car is ready to drive at start" but it seems like it sort of backfires when I try to drive mine before it drops down under 1 k . I also didn't notice this thread was in the 2.0 section.... I got teh Snurbo, could be different.

When I first looked at my car, I started it, then asked the guy if he could turn off the shop vac so I could hear the car run. He told me it was the beetle and not a shop vac....

hey babe!

to let your car properly warm up, start your buggie up, wait for the idle to drop, then start driving, but keep it below 3000 RPMs until your cold engine light goes out (and maybe even a mile or so after that).

this allows proper warm up for your car!

my friend randy made a great analogy.
it's like this...
if you wake up in the morning, you don't just jump out of bed and go for a run right away... takes awhile to wake up and get to that point.

treat your car the same way!
wake it up slow.

Thumbs up Vacuum Hoses

The 2.0's are easy to change yourself. Since you have a secondary air pump, you should have 3 hoses to change - you'll need about 5 feet of 3.5mm inside diameter silicone vacuum hose. Be careful to twist the old hoses off the fittings -don't just pull them or you could break one of the plastic nipples. Do one at a time so that you don't mix anything up.

Good luck!!!

If you buy from hose vendors you may find available colors
but I prefer you to use same quality or better quality hoses.

No question. I would definately go with far more superior quality than the OEM hoses.

I was about to ask that same question.

Anyone out there know where to buy (specifically) color vaccum hoses?

i bought blue silicone vacuum hose from ecs - great place.. www.ecstuning.com it comes in a bunch of different colors and they cut it to whatever length you specify. and as an added bonus - whenever i place my order before noon, i usually get it the next day, so theres def. no need to pay extra for shipping

Vac hoses are EEEEAAASSSSYYYYY to replace. And if they need to be done, you will notice a difference right away. I thought Hobbes was on his last legs, but realized one of his Vac hoses was GONE... $.89 at Auto Zone, and he was back to his sporty old self!!
